WHAT EXACTLY IS SHORT-TERM CARE INSURANCE?
Short Term Recovery Care - An Affordable Alternative to Long-Term Care Insurance
Part of smart retirement planning is making sure that precautions have been taken to guard against the possibility of an unexpected injury or prolonged illness. According to the American Association of LTCI, 42.8% of all patients admitted to nursing care facilities stay for less than a year. As life expectancies extend and the level of available care rises, elderly patients can be treated and recover from just about anything, including heart attacks or strokes. Extended hospital stays and lengthy recovery times can be expensive, and any uncovered, out-of-pocket expenses will mount quickly. A single event, even a knee or hip injury, could lead to a period of recovery devastating to any healthy retirement fund.
Fortunately, there is a solution. Short Term Recovery Care products are an excellent way to limit exposure to unforseen and potentially devastating nursing facility costs. These types of policies provide inexpensive coverage for any incident that may result in a short term recovery situation.
Some people look to Long Term Care policies to protect their assets from potential medical misfortunes caused by stays in a nursing facility. But any comprehensive Long Term Care product will come at a steep price. A Short Term Recovery Care plan can be a sensible alternative for someone who cannot afford the high premiums of Long Term Care plans. Most Short Term Recovery Care plans are very affordable, some with monthly premiums well under $100. Their benefits can be comparable with some Long Term Care plans when short stays are required, and they can provide comprehensive coverage as well. If a person feels that affording a Long Term Care plan is quite a reach, or if they are not comfortable with higher premiums, Short Term Care could be the answer as a very affordable option.
It's really great to know that multiple coverage options exist for a variety of situations. Short Term Recovery Care policies extend the luxury of versatility to many people. They are extremely effective policies for their price structure, powerful enough to provide coverage which could save lots of money, yet inexpensive enough to be affordable.
While Short Term Care Insurance plans are very effective as a stand-alone product, they even fit nicely with some Long Term Care Insurance plans. Besides granting an important need, Short Term Care Insurance plans make an invaluable addition to any retirement plan.
Long-Term Care Insurance Health Qualifications - Are you even insurable?
When it comes to Long-Term Care Insurance, there's an old saying, "your money pays for it, but your health really buys it." That's because there are certain pre-existing health conditions that can make it impossible for you to health qualify. But if you are in relatively good health, now is the time to start the process. Click here to complete our simple information request and get the ball rolling.
Most people have some health issues...maybe a bit of hypertension for which you take medication...maybe you even had cancer some years ago. Even people with health conditions may still qualify for long-term care insurance but it really pays to talk to a long-term care professional with access to multiple insurers.
Health underwriting standards vary from one insurer to another. And they change from time to time. So you need someone with current expertise who will shop the market for you before you apply. You'll save time. You can save money. And, you'll avoid being declined.
Here's important information: your good health can get you preferred health discounts that will save you significant dollars. Plus, you lock them in. You can't lose the good health status even if your health changes at a future date.
A recent study conducted by the American Association of Long-Term Care Insurance revealed the percentage of applicants who qualify for good health discounts and the percentage who were declined. It's clearly to your benefit to start the process at younger ages, certainly while in your 50s. Pre-existing conditions can make it impossible for you to health qualify. If you have any of these health issues, it generally won't pay to take the time to request a quote for long-term care insurance.

Rosalynn Carter, the former First Lady, put it so well when she said: "There are only four kinds of people in this world...those who have been caregivers, those who currently are caregivers, those who will be caregivers and those who will need caregivers."
Long-term care costs can devastate retirement plans and dreams faster than a bear market. Insuring what you've planned and worked so hard to build is a smart financial move. Will you be covered if you should require long-term care?
Americans are living longer and facing the important decision of whether to purchase long-term care insurance. Buy in your fifties when you're healthy enough to qualify and prices are lower.
Health insurance and Medicare likely will not cover your long-term care costs. Medicaid might but to qualify you must exhaust your assets. So what can you do?
In simple language and a helpful assessment of your needs we can do a comparison to help you with your long-term care insurance decision.
FACTS and STATS
The typical family caregiver is a 46-year-old woman caring for her widowed mother who does not live with her. She is married and employed.

Caregivers are three times more likely to get sick; this risk does not end when the person they are caring for dies.
Family caregivers experiencing extreme stress have been shown to age prematurely. This level of stress can take as much as 10 years off a family caregiver's life.
Good afternoon Ernie and Patti,
I'm calling about the wonderful ABC's of Medicare workshop that you hold at the Sedona Public Library every quarter. I missed the workshop today (May 2011) but am making sure the next two times for this year(Aug and Nov 2011) are on my calendar. I have benefited from your help in the past and look forward to continuing to benefit in the future as I get closer to Medicare sign-up. Thank you and have a wonderful day.
Deborah - Sedona AZ

Ernie,
You know more about Medicare than most anyone I know and you are very good at helping people sign up with the appropriate coverage. Medicare coverage and plans are so complex and change so frequently. I'm afraid that I am not as up to speed as I need to be; that's why you are on my speed dial!
Thanks,
Ted - Scottsdale AZ
Dear Ernie,

Dear Ernie,
We received the policy and are very pleased. We have heard very good things about Mutual of Omaha from a friend in the elderly care business. And, we're happy with the premium! Thanks for advising us so professionally.

Dear Ernie,
Thanks for all of your help. We appreciate all of the time you've spent with us explaining everything, answering questions, etc. We also appreciate the fact that you did not "high pressure" us either. You need to be commended for both of these above comments.
Carol and George - Tempe AZ
Dear Mr. Bobel,
Thank you so much for being so helpful and so pleasant in helping us find a replacement supplemental health insurance plan for our Medicare health insurance. Since my husband's job termination and hence loss of coverage, we have felt overwhelmed with "what to do" and you were wonderful (and calm) in helping.
With gratitude,
Anita - Gilbert AZ
